Long Kesh Lovesong
This is about the brutal occupation of Ireland by the British...and a love affair that did not end when a young man was sent to Long Kesh prison. You know it is really ironic to hear some countries talk about oppression and then watch them in action.
I can see your dark eyes smiling
At this moment in my mind
Far away across the distance
Of the past somewhere behind
I can almost hear you calling
Like a bird upon the wind
And your hand by the door
I can see you wave me in
The earth rolls through the sky
As they days they come and go
I can see it all behind me
In the world I used to know
It has been too long a time
Over which I might return
Sorrow follow life
This is the lesson I have learned
They've trampled on the flowers
They have drawn a broken line
Across the wild heather
That divides your life from mine
My fingers trace your features
On this smooth and ancient stone
They may keep me here forever
But I've never been alone
REPEAT CHORUS
Tell them I miss them deeply
By the glowing evening flames
And I never have regretted
That I never gave their names
It is hard and hard against
One may hope there is hope yet-
May come and it may not
But I never will forget
REPEAT CHORUS
I can see your dark eyes shining
At this moment in my mind
Far away across the distance
Of the past somewhere behind
I can almost hear you calling
Like a bird upon the wing
And your hand by the door
I can see you wave me in
And your hand by the door
I can see you wave me in...
